Have you looked at your garden recently and wished you could do more with it? With hectic schedules and a myriad of activities on the to-do list, it’s nearly impossible to create and maintain a beautiful garden. Before you give up entirely on your gardening ways, here are some quick tips for building and maintaining a beautiful garden with minimal effort.
Ditch the Lawn Mower
Replacing parts of your lawn can save you a bunch of time and effort. Use gravel to shape paths in your lawn instead of grassy walkways. Doing this will free up a lot of your time as the gravel paths do not require weekly maintenance. To make your gardening easier, surround your trees with woodland plants instead of a typical lawn. If you are unsure of which plants will be right for your lawn, ask your local garden center for suggestions.
Don’t Get Picky With Plants
Avoid choosing plants that will not thrive in your region. Talk to your garden center about which plants will do well in your area; specifically, plants that are native to your region. They are already adapted to the soil of your region and will generally thrive with little upkeep. After researching some plants native to your area, talk to your garden center about which plants come from similar regions to yours. These plants will be easily adaptable and will require little effort once established.
Don’t Skimp on the Mulch
Using a deep layer of mulch, about 2-4-inches, will add nutrients to your soil and make your plants thrive. By adding mulch, you can conserve the moisture that is in your garden and it will help suppress weeds. To get the most out of your mulch, all you need to do is add it to your garden twice a year. Mulch will reduce your gardening work down to minor weeding, watering, and feeding of your plants.
