The Do’s and Don’ts of Summer Landscaping

Summer is almost here, and with it, your home landscape is about to be at its best.

Summer is almost here, and with it, your home landscape is about to be at its best. It’s important to remember a few of the do’s and don’ts of landscaping so that you can have a garden and home of your dreams.  If you’re finding that keeping track of your space is too much work, or not enjoyable, our team at Evergreen Gene’s is here to help! With landscaping and maintenance services, you can have all the benefits of a beautifully cared for space without the work.

Do Set A Mowing And Maintenance Schedule

A big mistake that a homeowner can make is not to create and maintain a consistent mowing schedule. Because cutting grass too short or at the wrong time of the day can keep it from looking its best. Depending on the amount of rain and the growth of your lawn, you may need to mow several times a day.

Water Your Landscape When it’s Cool Outside

The time of day that you water your plants can have a significant effect on how well they thrive.  The ideal time of day to water plants is early in the day before the sun is at its strongest. If you’re watering once the heat is high, you’ll immediately be losing a significant amount of water to evaporation. Not only does this mean your plants can’t get the water as effectively, but that you’re being less efficient and wasting more water than you need to. Watering in the morning is preferred, but the early evening is possible as well. Remember not to water at night as that can lead to root rot and mildew buildup.

Do Use Native and Drought Tolerant Plants

To help make watering and care less intensive, consider opting for more drought tolerant plants for your landscape. Making the switch to plants that do well in heat and low water or that are native to your area can help significantly. Native plants, in particular, help make your home landscape easier to manage in the worst of the summer heat as they’re suited to your climate.

Don’t Let Pests Thrive

Last but not least, treat pests as you find them rather than when they become problematic. In general, prevention is always the best choice as it allows you to take action before the problems become too hazardous. But at the least, don’t let any pest pop-ups go too long.
