We are at the beginning of August which means Fall will be here before you know it. Once September comes around, it is essential that you are caring for your landscape properly so that it can stand up to inclement weather in the winter. The last thing you want is your grass to overgrow causing your lawn becomes a mess after a snowstorm. Luckily, there are a few simple tips to follow when caring for your landscape this fall.
When it comes to fall landscape care, it is essential that you are mowing your lawn throughout the entire season. You want to cut your grass until it has officially stopped growing, even if it is cold outside. During the season you want to maintain a three-inch height, and then you want to trim turf down to one and one-quarter inches so that you can prevent disease from forming. If your grass is too long during the winter, grass can get packed down and mold can grow after snowfall.
A major fall landscaping task to complete is trim your trees, especially any dead branches. The last thing you want is for a branch to swing off and damage your home during a rain or snowstorm. You want to trim any branches that are near or above your home or any other structure such as your deck your fencing. All you have to do is get a pair of tree loppers from your local hardware and cut any branches that are cracked or dead.
Early fall is the perfect time to start planting shrubs on your landscape so that their roots can have time to grow in the cool, moist soil. You want to dig a hole that is twice the diameter and two inches less in height than the root ball. You want to make sure that top of the root ball remains at root level when planting shrubs. All you have to do is fill it with soil, water it, and then add more top soil at the root ball.
