How to Start a Butterfly Garden

Landscaping Small BackyardThe weather is getting warmer and May flowers are starting to bloom. You look out at your backyard and see a few buds here and there in your garden, but you want more. You want color to radiate from your garden, but aren’t sure what to do to get the best result. Close your eyes and imagine a full, colorful garden with plenty of butterflies floating around.  The best way to attract the pretty insects is to create not just a garden, but a butterfly garden.

Creating a butterfly garden is simple and easy, especially when you visit Evergreen Gene’s. We can help with every step of creating the butterfly garden that you envision. The first thing to do when planning a garden is to research what kind of butterflies are in the area and what plants attract them. The Monarch Butterfly is a native of Glen Burnie and is most commonly attracted to Milkweed. There is also the state butterfly, the Baltimore Checkerspot, which is only attracted to the White Turtlehead flower. Make sure to plant flowers that feed not only the butterflies, but the caterpillars before them. Visit our Garden Center to purchase:

  1. Flower seeds
  2. Top soil
  3. Mulch
  4. Gloves
