Incorporating Rocks into Your Landscape, Tips from Your Baltimore Landscaper

Incorporating rocks into your landscape can bring naturalistic elements to your well-designed garden while adding color and texture to your outdoor space. Whether you choose river rocks with surfaces made smooth from the rush of water encompassing them over time or flat terracotta stones that will usher in the look of the Mediterranean, appropriately selected rocks set the tone for your landscape.

Here are some of our favorite ways here at Evergreen Gene’s to assimilate rocks into your garden:

Mulch: Try trading out mulch and swapping in rocks as a groundcover. The initial investment might be higher, but they’ll last a lifetime, meaning you won’t have to worry about the hassle of re-mulching with each new season. Light-colored stones will serve as a complimentary contrast to dark colored leaves, while lightening the look of your landscape. On top of all that, rocks are great at quashing the growth of unwanted weeds around your favorite plants.

Rock Garden: Get Zen with a Japanese rock garden, or “dry landscape.” Choose a few prized boulders and surround them with sprawling, vine-like flowers, like ground orchids or cacti. Fill in gaps with smaller stones for a well-rounded, fully-finished look.Stone Waterfall

Container Gardens: Ditch the conventional route of leaving your container gardens on decks and porches, and instead opt to place your potted plants in a rockscape in your yard and can take advantage of water from rainfall or a nearby sprinkler system. The rocks will serve as great drainage for the plants, and you’ll be left with a low-maintenance container garden that has a striking appearance.

In 1954, Evergreen Gene’s opened its doors in Glen Burnie, MD. The store functioned as a garden center that offered landscaping, lawn maintenance and hardscaping services. When you walk into our store, the selection of trees, flowers and other shrubbery will amaze you. Our inventory has anything that a horticulturist like yourself could possibly want.

Evergreen Gene’s is conveniently located at 401 Crain Highway South, Glen Burnie, and is open during regular business hours. We are always happy to speak with our customers, so do not hesitate to give us a call at 410-766-6877.
