Gardening Tips for Beginners

Gardening Tips for Beginners

You don’t have to be an expert to start a beautiful garden.

Have you been thinking about getting out in your yard and testing your green thumb? You don’t have to be an expert to start a beautiful garden. Even if you are a beginner, there are some tips you can follow to get you started on your new gardening adventure. Read on to learn more about these tricks of the trade.

Understand Your Climate

Before you plant your first seed, you should have a working knowledge of what types of plants your region and climate can tolerate. This is probably one of the most underrated gardening tips, but it should be at the top of every list. Not everything can grow everywhere. If you want to sustain life, you have to understand the type of environment that your plants will require. Take note of the sun exposure, annual rainfall, and other characteristics that would play a role in the long-term health of your garden.

Understand Your Soil

Because the soil is the foundation of your garden, it’s important to learn the nutrient and pH levels of the dirt. Take a sample to a local expert to have it tested. You’ll walk away with a breakdown of the acidity and alkaline levels of the soil. This will give you even more insight into what types of plants will thrive in your soil, according to its specific characteristics.

 Start Simple

Get your feet wet and gain some confidence with plants that are relatively simple to maintain. Think of it as gardening 101 while you’re learning to keep a schedule and maintain a balance of caring for your plants and giving them what they need.

Create a Design

As you’re learning, you’ll probably get excited about all the possibilities for your garden. However, in that excitement, you want to be careful not to overcrowd your garden. In your research, find out the appropriate amount of space that each type of plant will require to thrive. For example, perennials usually require about 18 inches of space between each one. Also, think about height in your design and how you can place your plants to create a dynamic and awe-inspiring look.
